Our Journey
My real estate investing journey started at 28 years young. I left the corporate world determined to strike out on my own and build an empire brick by brick. Brimming with confidence from successfully completing my latest real estate investing course, I purchased my first commercial property. A six-unit apartment building that I would owner occupy. “On top of the world”, is how I’d describe my feelings when they handed me the keys.
Consequently, that feeling proved to be short-lived. Soon I was dealing with the stress of troublesome tenants, nagging repairs and unreliable contractors. Eventually, I was struggling to collect rents which made it difficult to make my mortgage payments. Worried, confused, angry and even embarrassed that I was losing my property. My hope had faded by the time I received the foreclosure notice, so I walked away from the property. Two years of my life and $25,000 wasted with nothing to show for it.
Over the years I’ve spoken to many people that relate to my story and experienced some of those same feelings. That painful experience led me to the genesis of Equity Saviors. A resource to educate owners on the power of equity and how to best leverage that equity and overcome distressed situations. Moreover, to increase financial literacy and self-sufficiency in our communities. If I had the knowledge that I have today, I would have chosen a better path and not walked away from my equity.
